Hello, I have a serious space flight sim itch that needs to be scratched. I used to play Freelancer until the wee hours of the morning. While I could probably do that again, I'd much prefer to experience something new. So I did try to play X3:TC but frankly, the UI drives me batty, the fake voice over drives me batty and the fact that the missions have no balance drives me batty. (Some "easy" missions I can't seem to complete no matter what. Even when I look them up online.) On a side note, I wish Eve Online had actual dog-fighting - that would make it like the best game ever, but since it's more tactical than flight simmy, it's not really my cup of tea anymore. So shoot away. I need suggestions! Any help will be apprecited. I didn't find the right solution from the Internet. If you're after older stuff, then the older Elite series are top notch, although the first 3 games all have fan remakes - which actually get openly discussed on the Frontier Developments sites anyway, showing they have the blessing of the copyright holders.
There's (original on the left, remake on the right) Elite / Oolite Frontier : Elite 2 / Pioneer Frontier : First Encounters / FFED3DAJ (requires the original game to play - which can be downloaded from numerous sites, including Space Sim Central)
If you're not into the Elite series, then you could always go for Starlancer, the game which came before Freelancer itself (both in time and story) - the controls are more the traditional joystick style rather than Freelancer's FPS-style gameplay. (Something you can sort of replicate in FE2 and FFE) And of course there's Elite : Dangerous, which requires an active internet connection even if playing solo.
