I have looked around at prices for renting a server so we can have a public server for this mod. Prices range from around £40 to £100 p/month for a server or virtual server which has all the necessary grunt required, and the server provider is fine with running a game server and the bandwidth limits are big enough (or no bandwidth limit).
This is a little too expensive for me to fund myself at the moment, and at this stage of the mod development, it would not be fair to ask anyone else to stump up cash towards it - so if anyone knows of a hosting solution that costs £20 or less per month, allows running FLServer, allows full RDP access and hosting a web site, let me know and I'll have a look. It would need to be an EU server, but preferably a UK server.
Thanks

Sadly the funding is an issue for myself too - hence my 3G connection rather than a landline at present. I do know some people who recently got server hardware, but I don't know if they've got the connection setup needed to run a potentially busy game server.
I do know that most Mod-based Freelancer servers have a "Paypal" setup for donations to help with server costs, but that only becomes viable once there's an established userbase for the server. I know that Mostly Harmless is slowly getting more people downloading it, so it's just a matter of getting the people downloading more involved.

I'll be getting a much better internet connection at the end of the month, and I may well see about using one of my old systems as a server for the mod.
I'll endeavour to keep it active as much as possible, but any downtime at all will almost certainly be during the UK night times.
